Realistically for ad purposes it is better for each Apple product to have a unique name for the processor so no one complains (“my phone isn’t as fast as my iPad!”)...right?

anyhoo, I don’t like when the newest iPad has less power or an older processor than the current iPhone.
Since most people and Apple treat these as computers, they should do yearly upgrades like with all macs (well usually) lol.
*But this is so iPads don’t fall behind iPhones too. I like to have all my devices be equal in how it does it’s job and is the best available at the time in CPU/GPU power and what generation.

1.) iPhone gets A14?

2.) iPad gets A14X, Y, or Z? Or was the iPad Pro 2020 processor name a fluke and Apple will do AX series processors for iPad again?

3.)Mac = M1X (Mac translation of A1X?)

4.) iPod = same as iPhone?

I’d love 3 lines...

A14, A15, and on, for theiphone/ipod.

A14X, A15X, and on, for iPad Pro.

Then for macs I think “M1X” or A14M or A15M.
Or get rid of numbering so the processors don’t mean much.

Sorry, sleepless night with an odd thought to share. Lol 😂😂😂✌️

Apple already has an M line of processors. They're motion co-processors.

I don't think they'll change the name of iPhone and iPad SoC's because this will just confuse the consumer.

I do think they will have some sort of separate name for their line of Macs with AS. No idea what it'll be just yet.

Then again it might depend on the model. There's no real reason you couldn't stick an A12X/Z into a MacBook and have it performing as fast or faster than current Intel CPUs in all honesty. I could imagine the entry level MacBooks and iMacs getting iPad Pro CPUs while MacBook Pros, iMac Pros, etc would get their own lines with beefed up CPUs.

I also hope they actually add more desktop-like functionality to iPadOS, at least for the iPad Pro, once the transition begins, as it should enable them to easily add macOS features to iPadOS and the hardware is definitely capable.

But who knows except for Apple? It's all just speculation at this point.

I see no reason to name these differently.
And no, we don’t treat our iPhones or iPads as computers, they ARE computers. ;)

Anyway, Apple is going to benefit from establishing uniform cpu branding by making these terms potentially more present in the mind of consumers.

Yeah, ive been trying to tell people that, but most people think that Apple will put a new kind of chip in the MacBooks.

It's more fun to speculate about shiny new things I guess. To me it makes way more sense that Apple would put an iPad Pro chip in the MacBooks especially since at the announcement of the 2018 iPad Pro, Tim Cook proudly proclaimed that it was already faster than most laptops on the market.

The more expensive "Pro" machines, I expect will see their own chips.

I love my iPad Pro 3.
I use 0.1% of the iPads capabilities so I don’t need the latest and greatest... oh, but darn I am excited about and hope that mini LED has no flaws and issues and A14X or A15X sounds awesome.
I mostly just hope iPads get respected by Apple, I still want iPad pros that can beat some high-end macs.
No more A12Z non-update iPad nonsense. 😂😂

I honestly got the iPad Pro 2018 mostly due to the fact it has the USB-C port which is much more useful to me than a Lightening port since it's meant to be between an iPad and a laptop. And the simple fact I was buying on the used market and the price difference between the previous gen and the 2018 model was so small it made no real sense to get the older model. I could have gotten a 1st or 2nd gen for less money but as a rule I always buy within the previous two generations and never anything older if I'm planning to keep the device long-term which in this case I was/am. Very happy with my choice too. 2018 iPad Pro is absolutely solid, 2020 is a minor upgrade at best, and it's going to last me years easily.

The A12Z chip is probably the most powerful Mobile chip right now and I feel bad that I simply do not use it to it’s full potential lol🤣😅
The fact that the Mac ARM Transition Kits run on this thing says a lot.

The A12X as well, that was a chip truly ahead of its time, if any of you have seen the GSMArena Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ review, you’ll see that the A12X of 2018 absolutely obliterates the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ by quite some margin in some areas, it’s insane just how powerful these Apple A series chips.
