iPad Pro Maybe No New iPad Pros This Year

I wonder if there will be an iPad release this year. Still no sign of an event. Going to M2 should be a pretty big deal, I would be surprised if they just press release a new processor upgrade like this.
 
There was no Apple event for iPad Pro (2020) either. It was announced via press release. That announcement was also a big deal as they introduced Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro and mouse pointer in iOS update.

I wouldn’t be surprised if M2 iPad Pro is also announced via press release.

Given all we're really expecting now is a CPU/Spec bump with no external changes I think a press release "launch" is now likely

That was right at the start of COVID though, so it would probably have been announced at an event had it been safe to do so.

All valid points. I suppose I should have stopped long ago trying to guess what Apple will do.

I have major concerns with M2 on the iPad considering the reactions to the MacBook Air. But I also push my iPads more than others. I think I’ll get the M1 now before they replace it with M2.
 
I think the only upcoming product that needs an event is the new Mac Pro. If there's no new Mac Pro, then I don't think there will be an event (but the products might still be coming).

What's the problem with the M2? You think it will perform worse or something?

Remember that the M2 MacBook Air, when fully throttling, is still more powerful than an actively cooled M1 MacBook Pro that isn't throttling.

Its hotter than the M1. Even if it performs better, I don't like my items to get overly hot. I have dealt with hot iPads before and I think the M2 will be too hot with it when stressed.

Doubt it. I'm fairly sure the max temperature that Apple will allow the chip to reach is going to be exactly the same in the M2 as the M1 iPads.

It’s proven that the M2 is hotter than the M1. I’m not taking that chance so I just went ahead and got the M1 iPad.

No it’s not. There is proof all over the place that M2 is hotter than M1. So if they make it the same temps on the iPad, that could mean less performance. If they dont, could mean hotter iPads. It’s not insane. I don’t want a hotter system. That simple. Why wait and risk it when I know M1 is fine and fits my needs? I can wait for M2, but not for M3. So just get it now when M1 is still offered as new.

May I suggest waiting another 2 or so weeks if you're set on the M1 iPad as next month is Black Friday. Whilst I'm not sure about American retail practice, this has worked in the UK for me in the past.

If the M2 iPad is announced at the end of October, you would be able to get a new M1 iPad at a slightly lower price because the new models are incoming. Equally, the store you buy from will likely have a Black Friday deal on M1 iPads in November as they'll want to offload all their stock - you could go back to the store with your receipt and request they fulfil the Black Friday price as you'll be within 30 days of purchase.

not a chance...M2 is already out so the ipads pro will be this year...the question is about the M2 pro/max if its this year or spring but M2 ipads expect them this month or November at latest ...pple needs some ipads for holidays too

Apple Inc.’s next iPad Pro is arriving in a matter of days. The company is set to announce new 11-inch and 12.9-inch versions of the device, codenamed J617 and J620, that include the same M2 processor found in the latest MacBook Air.

It’s the first update to the company’s pro tablet line in a year and a half, and the M2 chip is the biggest change. The processor will offer a nearly 20% speed boost, which isn’t as large a jump as the M1 did last year but nothing to scoff at.

The announcement will be on their web site instead of an event.
