I am so upset. And I know this is an on going issue.. "everybody wants blu ray" and then your going to have someone else come in and say "I don't want blu ray its not everybody, just because you want it doesnt mean we all do" and now I'm saying why not! IIf it's an option and you don't want it don't select it. But what abou the vast majority of us that do? A 1440p screen and NO blu-ray!! Not even 1080p iTunes movies! UGHHHHHH. I don't understand what type of agreement can't be made. Do we have any clues on why they might be delayed other than iLife '10?

    Sorry for ranting.

I agree. It's annoying using this external drive and windows 7 to watch bluray at hotels.

    Cheers

And again, I can see people who say "oh I have a 50 inch to watch blu rays on"...well so do I but I still want support. I feel like this brand new iMac I am about to order is already outdated...

Given all the tablet threads, one might have thought that yet another blue ray thread might not be as annoying as usual. One would be wrong.

I'm sorry, but the OP needs a reality check. So, just saying your theory is correct, what about the people who already purchased the new 27"? Apple does not just add new features in an existing line and burn the other customers. The current line was just intro'd in October. Do yourself a favor and let the Blu Ray go. If Apple changes their mind then so be it, but let it go, like the Cut N Paste in Finder. Some things you need to just let go of and move on.

Nope...Mostly because Apple has enough common sense to understand that Blue Ray blows.

It wasn't a theory it was a desire.

And, are you serious? There is always that 2 week period where the break the return point off for new products and updates. People are always going to get "burned" when something new comes out. That how it is. "Let it go and move on". It's a want, something a LOT of people want. It's going to be awesome when they start fading out DVD's next year or two and my year old mac will be useless for new movie releases on hard copy.

Yeah, technically your answer makes sense. There is no advantage of blu ray over DVD, its quality is not superior, and the storage space difference is hardly noticable. In fact, I should have just kept my VHS player instead of wasting my money on DVD's.

Honestly, people, I am the most easy-going guy ever. I never come on here acting like a hardass or being a jerk or a smartass, but now I feel like one because you come on here with your stupid comments.
I came in here stating what I wish the product had and complaining (as we all do) about it not being so. Then I get comments like "the OP needs a reality check" and the one by rdowns up there. Just chill out and your meaningless jerk-off comments are not necessary. If you want to tell me why it's pointless to have blu-ray in a mac, fine. But don't be stupid.

    eh...?

If Apple wants or needs to introduce BRD then it will. They have never shown loyalty in any way to their exisiting customer base when announcing new models.... October 09 launch or not.

a few thoughts on this, bearing in mind that Apple are basically a consumer level media centric company.

1/ BRD is the default HD optical format.

2/ Apple have been board members of the BDA since 2005.... and still don't support it.

3/ iTunes content is not even close to BRD quality.

4/ Lots of customers want it.

5/ BRD playback is possible on Linux and Windows.

Most people have thought that Apple weren't at the forefront of new tech for some time now. This kinda confirms it...

I understand the desire to push digital downloads and not having BRD as standard but why not as an option or as a MBA style superdrive?

HD content on big TV screens that iCon mentioned years ago is still driven by optical media.

The embarrassing failure that is Apple TV should have told him that.

what message does it give out....

    'want cutting edge HD tech?'

    buy Windows.

    nice..

Rant rant rant ... If you want Blu-Ray go on and call Steve Jobs and tell him you want Blu-Ray immediately! For sure he will act as you wish!

I would appreciate a Blu-Ray drive in my MBP but the 13s only have 720p HD resolution so I do not care at all.

Maybe the 27s (your native speaker and you do the ' mistake?!) are delayed because of... limited supply because of the yellow tint issue. I know that is ridiculous.

Why not have it as an option!?!

Why not just take insert-able optical media out of the thing and put in a extra HD, GPU? Who needs freakin disks anyway. I'd much prefer dual gpus in ATI crossfire (or maybe just a one bigger one) than blu-ray.
Much more apple thing to do imo, removable disks are just a waste of space.

Yes, I would love it as an option. I see what you are saying as I don't use disks for anything BUT movies. And I can honestly say that I would not be watching them on there all day but I guess the main reason I want it is because I feel that Apple is lagging behind and I don't want something outdated as soon as it ships... I know this is technology but its different with an optical drive.

Blu Ray would look great on the 27" and a lot of people are screaming for it. Apple are going to ignore them as they want everyone to get their content from the iTunes store.

Your funny. FOR SURE Blu-Ray would be very nice, but you have to keep in mind that there are to much threads regarding this topic - and now you come up and start a new one. You too know that :apple: does not want Blu Ray to **** up their I Tunes Store sales of videos and of what future brings.

And if Blu Ray then it comes to the Pros first - that of course you knew too.

Your way of "leading" the discussion is more than ridiculous that is why you only get that few resonance on you topic. Behave! :p and it will be better.

If you played a blu Ray on the new 27" iMac, it would be a yellow Ray.

I asked my reseller for an update on my order

he told me a few week ago he wouldnt order/receive any more imacs until Apple fix the heat and yellow issue

friday he mailed me back that Apple would release the revised units on monday and he would get his first delivery by next friday.

I guess we ll see if hes right or if hes just stalling and doesnt really know diddly squat.

    lol.

I would love to see blu-ray on the new iMacs, but Steve would rather have you buy crap 720p videos on iTunes so Apple makes more money instead of delivering a better user experience for the user. It all comes down to money, and thats more important than making a better computer for the customer.

No. But I get what you mean by your comment. It's just that it blows my mind how people respond when it's so unncessary. Then when you stand your ground or "prove them wrong" they WILL find something ELSE to start talking about against you. I know how Britney Spears, damn. It's not that my feelings are hurt or anything, lol. But it's just.. completely pointless. I figured people in these forums would have a little more class. Normally I don't give a damn what people say or think, something just ticked today. I guess work is stressfull today. Life in the ER.... ugh.
    HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH!!!!!
