Same in my GTI. Every now and then the audio just won't play and I have to fiddle with unplugging and plugging the phone back in until it does.

In addition to the above, I also had my entire infotainment system freeze up and had to turn off the car, wait until the screen turned off, and then turn it back on to get it to unfreeze. It happened about 4 times or so in the 2 years I've had it.

I am currently on my third Mazda (I owned a 2006 3, a 2007 6 and now a 2016 3) in the UK. CarPlay is a feature that would make or break another Mazda purchase for me, I use the Apple ecosystem a lot and am familiar with it, I have used CP on vehicle sin the past as it by far outshines the Mazda Connect system. Most notably for navigation where Mazda's maps are usually out of date and/or incorrect, in addition even when I have had a trial and paid for it the traffic information simply does not work, nor did the 'what's around' feature or the petrol prices and weather aspects.

Connecting a phone to the system as it stands is hit and miss, sometimes it will resume what you were previously listening to but other times it will just pick something at random from my iPhone. Using a USB drive instead is a joke as the system can NEVER remember where it was in a single track let alone a playlist which makes listening to audiobooks a complete no with the Mazda Connect system alone.

And all this is before the random system crashes and freezes. So yes, if Mazda do not sort themselves out with CP by the next time I purchase a new vehicle then I will look elsewhere, there are those that looks for sports or performance in a vehicle, I look for the entertainment system as that's what I get most out of driving.

The concerns over the USB port (apparently it's underpowered) could be easily solved with an adapter that has a single lightning connector at one end but splits out to USB and a car power jack at the other.

Same bullish..t from Mazda all the time.
I even wouldn't be so angry if they hadn't promised that so many times now. But they just keep promising and in the end make us fools.
I love my 2017 M3 but the MZD is rubbish. It is slow, laggy and crashes too often. Voice control is a joke. Maybe it used to be ok in 2013 but it is 2018.

Mazda, wake up!

Mazda is trying to beat Rolls Royce and Bugatti in becoming one of the dead last for offering the feature?

Bentley and Lamborghini offer it! I mean, WTF Mazda??

I was all ready to buy a Mazda3 Hatchback Grand Touring... but lack of Carplay stopped me from pulling the trigger. Shame, cuz I really liked the car.

Honda screwed around too. They rolled out a pilot program for CarPlay on select 2015 CR-V but ultimately pull the plug and made it into a "feature" for 2017.

I am so sick of all the whiners/whining about Mazda and the fact that they don't offer Car Play currently . Their interiors are to small, they are underpowered, their interiors are sub par, their cars are too noisy. They won't offer a manual on the new turbocharged 6. And on and on and on. The fact is I used to own what I felt the holy grail of cars, Honda. I got tuned into Mazda more than a decade ago. Mazda has it right in everything they do. They are a small car manufacturer and have to implement changes etc on THEIR timeline. They just don't rush into things. What other car manufacturer has accomplished what they have? Case in point, their new Skyactive X. Why do you think Toyota partnered with them? Because they are innovative. Good things come to those who wait. Mazda will deliver.

Maybe they shouldn't have announced it as coming soon in March 2017 then. By any definition soon is gone.

I found these two articles. Yes the first references the March 17 announcement. Mazda never implied it would be in 2017, but their exact words according to the second article was the very near future in new and upcoming models. As I read this it could imply 2018 as more
than likely the 2017 model production year was probably nearing its end. Plus I assume to integrate into current/older models etc with Mazda Connect., there would be bugs that would need to be worked out. It is plausible the new 2018 Mazda 6 may get this upgrade as technically it is now a new model.

Apple's CarPlay —and Android Auto —will be coming to Mazda vehicles sometime in the near future, the Japanese automaker revealed on Monday, taking it off the list of major holdouts in CarPlay support.

The company didn't say exactly when support will be coming, or which vehicles might be launching with the technology, according toCars.com. It did however reveal that any vehicle sporting a Mazda Connect system will be "retroactively upgradeable," with "a potentially minimal hardware addition needed.

That being said, Mazda is expected to add Apple CarPlay™ or Android Auto™ integration in new Mazda models in the very near future. Although the automaker hasn’t announced which model will be the first to debut the new features, the brand has announced that it intends to integrate the two technologies to its upcoming vehicles.

Yep. Same here.

Oh come on in the near future or soon does not mean 12 months away. Nobody preannounces like that. Unless of course they were feeling the pinch of not having it.

Yep. Same here.

Our cx9 infotainment system crashes every time at the same point after we leave the house.

I highly doubt that Mazda was purporting a claim that they would add Car Play as a feature to their line up. Obviously, your definition of soon/near future and theirs is different. I compare a lot of the comments on this thread to whiny little brats. They don't get their way and what they want right at this minute and throw a tantrum.

Keep in mind Mazda is a small in comparison to the giants and with every change there is a cost. It is not as easy for them financially to implement change but when they do it is major.

I appreciate Mazda and commend them for being committed to the overall driving experience as detailed in their comments below about adding this as a feature vs. just adding it because it is currently the popular thing to do.

We remain committed to introducing the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto technologies to our vehicles, designing them to interface with our MAZDA CONNECT infotainment system in a manner that promotes a focus on the driving experience. We cannot provide timing or any additional details at this time.

Are you connecting an iPhone over USB? It my car, that seems to be the trigger for constant crashes. BT connections don't make it crash

No. Haven't connected to cars for years as they treat the iPhone as a iPod which I don't like. Connect via USB with phone plugged into the power socket.

Only the cx9 infotainment crashes, we also have a 2017 cx3 which doesn't crash, ever.

Interesting. The system should be about the same on both cars. Did you try asking the dealer for a new firmware version? I'm still on v55, which has been stable. The latest versions are v59. All the cars I believe share the same infotainment firmware.
(Settings -> about -> Version Information)

Interesting that the CX-3 has version 55 as yours and is stable whilst the CX-9 has the newer version 59 and crashes. Both cars bought at the same time.

We haven't had them in the dealers yet as I was waiting for news on Carplay.

Overall I would say the Mazda infotainment system is poor but just my opinion.

Toyota and Lexus today confirmed that CarPlay will be available in select 2019-and-later vehicles, making Mazda one of the only recognizable automakers without support for Apple's in-car software platform in the United States.

mazda-carplay.jpg

Many of our readers commented or tweeted to ask if and when Mazda will ever support CarPlay, so we reached out to the company for an update.

MacRumors received the following statement from Mazda spokesperson Jacob Brown today ensuring that it still plans to offer CarPlay. Unfortunately, it still isn't willing to share any additional details at this time.Mazda made a similar promise a few times last year. Last March, for example, the automaker told Cars.com that CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility was in the works, and noted the software platforms would be available in both new and older-generation vehicles with its Mazda Connect system.

Mazda Connect appears to have debuted in 2013 model year vehicles, so a wide range of Mazda vehicles should eventually support CarPlay and Android Auto if and when the company finally fulfills its promise. Of note, like Toyota, Mazda has been listed as a committed CarPlay partner on Apple's website since 2014.

A survey last year indicated that an increasing number of customers consider CarPlay a must-have feature, so like Toyota, it may be worthwhile for Mazda to begin supporting Apple's software platform sooner rather than later.

CarPlay is already available in hundreds of vehicle makes and models around the world, including Ford, General Motors, Fiat Chrysler, BMW, MINI, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Acura, Hyundai, Kia, Subaru, Nissan, Renault, Mitsubishi, Porsche, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Volkswagen, Volvo, and many others.

As an update to Toyota's announcement, a spokesperson said the automaker doesn't have any plans to support CarPlay in pre-2019 vehicles at this time, even though models like the 2018 Camry and 2018 Sienna have its Entune 3.0 system.

[doublepost=1520664322][/doublepost]My reply. Mazda makes a great car. Just bought my third one and may buy a 4th this month. Although they do almost everything right, I agree with the other readers that not supporting apple 100% is a huge mistake. If you go look up compatible phones, they do not guarantee compatibility with the iPhone except for the most basic functions. I just upgraded my software on my card and made a big difference.

I also agreed that Apple play is essential to any successful car company. Anybody who thinks they can ignore the iPhone is sadly mistaken. Is my opinion that the iPhone buyers have a high level of education and have above average income come.

So let’s hope that At the very least they will allow Mazda owners To upgrade to apple play even if there is a cost. I’d rather pay for it and got it sooner but wait till the end of the year and get it for free. But, full disclosure, I can afford it.
