Over the last 6 months or so, I've been eyeing a new MB Air with the 1.5TB storage option. It seems that option is no longer available. There were refurbs on the Apple site with the 1.5TB option, and now even new ones only go to 1.0TB. Anyone knows what happened?

There was never any such thing. Apple does not offer refurb units that exceed the specifications of their retail models.

The current MacBook Air is only offered with 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB SSD options.

Even the current MacBook Pros never offered the 1.5TB option. 1TB? Yes. 2 TB? Yes. But nothing in between.

It's unlikely Apple ever sold many of them because the 1.5TB option was so expensive, especially in comparison to a MacBook Pro. Apple stopped offering the option when the 2019 Air was released, so any refurbs would be 2018 models.

Maybe the 1.5TB (and even a 2TB option) will announce with the 2020 Airs.

This is no new MB Air with 1.5 TB option. It was available in an earlier generation. But you can't get a new earlier model today.

You have two options: buy the new 2019 model with 1 TB or buy a refurbished earlier model with 1.5 TB option.

But you cannot buy a new MB Air 2019 with the 1.5 TB option.

That was what you requested in your original post: new MB Air.
