How is it that the MB, with a c2d, used ddr3 memory? From what I am reading, for a c2d system, the benefit of ddr3 is largly nill compared to ddr2
 
Apple needed to upgrade the systems to be more inline with their other offerings. The more uniform the offering the less different types of parts they have to stock and purchase. There is a small performance boost probably but not so much that it would be really noticed in everyday stuff.
