60-65C running winxp in parallels, pages, and itunes
fans running at 1800rpm
I'm trying to find a definitive what's a good "normal temp" and "under load temp" somewhere. Looking here I seem to be about average.

56C - idle
82-84C - encoding DVD to MP4 (is that temp too high)

2.4 GHz SR MBP

MBP C2D 2.33 15"

50-55 when normally bout 5 centigrade hotter when charging.

65-70+degrees when using Aperture.etc

edit: to the above, thats about the same as me.

As hot as it gets

MBP (orig.) 1.83GHz 15"

+after 30m of light usage with Firefox & Safari open:
@1000rpm = 59C
@2500rpm = 53C
@3000rpm = 49C
all averages

+after 10m of flash, like the occasional YouTube video, or wth GPU dependent applications:
@1000 = 96C (yes, beat that) After fans kick in, temp. will go down to 80-something.
That was last winter, when I wasn't using smcFanControl. Won't be doing it anymore as the lid (LCD) is bending, like if it were smiling at me. I guess because of that much heat, closing the lid puts some strain on the top middle of it, while the hinges on the bottom try to push it open way too strongly for an easily bendable "hot lid".

The wife's MB (orig.) averages 45C with default fan speeds; running MS Office applications, mostly.

-MBPmad, Very mad.

Using Firefox, Mail, VLC spielt DivX movie....
Energy Setting: Better Performance!

15" SR-MBP c2d, 2.2

Today, in a room with the temp of 23c, i got the following.

During idle times (just sitting there with next to nothing open)
Between 39c - 42c

HD Quicktime movie trailer in loop, firefox open, messenger & skype open
Between 44c - 47c

Encoding a 320x240 2 min movie in iMovie, with firefox, and iTunes open
Between 55c - 64c

During WOW
Between 70c - 80c

edit: During wow, if i had smcfancontrol running the fans at 6000 rpm, it didnt seem to go above 72c, sometimes went around 68c.

I just got off the phone with an Apple product specialist, told him that when running iTunes Visualizer, my CPU A is reported to befrom 90-95 degrees Celcius. He told me that iStat was wrong-that it couldn't run that hot, otherwise the computer would be on fire. He said it couldn't even be 55 degrees.

Ehhhhh?

Somehow i doubt that istat would give incorrect temps... Otherwise people wouldnt be using it.
Edit: Not to mention, iStat isnt the only application that is reading the temps as that high, so again, i highly doubt iStat is wrong.

Here are my stats.

SR MBP 17" with 4gb of RAM and 160gb 5400 RPM hard drive:
Activity: Adium, iChat, Safari, iTunes, Google Desktop, Address Book.

Fans: Left and Right at 2000.
Temperature: 40 celcius.

Is that good?

Its better than my SR 17". Mine idles at 50 Celcius. Yours is at 40 with light use? I think you're fine.

Then he either misunderstood you, or he's an idiot.

Go find someone else to talk to. I don't want my computer running at 90+˚C, even though the processor can supposedly take 125˚C. Other parts may not.

Running SETI for a while while I'm outside knocking a rodent senseless so the stupid lazy cat will finish it off (about 10-20 minutes) I come back and it varies between 65 and 67 C.

IIRC from the intel specs, 100C is when the built in thermal management on the chip kicks in and throttles the clock to help the chip cool down. This will affect performance by up to 50% I believe. At 125C is when damage will start to occur and the machine will probably shut down if it reaches that temp.

MacBook 57-61C @ 2700rpm (default settings)
Right now just browsing MR and playing music, but also have a couple of other apps open (but idle)

Lowest temp ~46C (idle, fans on high)
Highest temp ~81C (games, encoding, etc.)

2.4GHz SR MBP 15" with 4GB RAM.

Idle: 42c 2000rpm
WoW: ~70c, up to 6000rpm

WoW was flawless again for hours this evening, framerates from mid 30's to 60+ - needless to say I'm extremely impressed with this laptop! I did install smcFanControl though, so I could force the fans to 6000rpm so the base wasn't so hot on my legs.

Mine is a bit strange. The Gpu diode temperature is always 6-10 degree celcius more than others. Even when i wake it up from sleep, every temperature follow the ambient temperature except Gpu diode. Any idea of how this happens? or is there any method to calibrate the sensors in case it s wrongly measured?

by the way, now i m running firefox, mail, adium, keynote and average temperature is about 58C

CPU A : 63C
GPU Diode : 73C
GPU heatsink : 63 C
Heatsink A : 59C
Heatsink B : 46C
Enclosure bottom : 36C
Memory cotrol : 48C
Fujitsu MHW21 : 39C

I'm afraid mine might be running too hot.

MacBook Pro, 2.2ghtz, Santa Rosa 15"

Idle Temps:
CPU A: 52
GPU Diode: 61
Fans: 2000

Running Halo UB:
CPU A: 65
GPU Diode: 76
Fans: 3800

Is that terrible?

I'm backing up a large amount of data through rsync over ssh and I'm getting 11-12MB/sec. Fans are around 2000 RPM. This is bringing the temps on my 2.4GHz 15" SR to 70 C. It doesn't seem to be going higher than this.

The computer is so hot my hands are sweating. Although, the sweating may be from fear that this thing is going to ignite and burn my house down.

EDIT: The fans are now both at around 2600RPM and it's still around 67 - 70 C during this backup I'm running.

On my SR 2.4 MBP the GPU Diode does the same about 8C to 10C higher. When I ran 3 QT HD trailers the CPU's got up to the high 70's and so did the GPU. I am guessing the GPU just runs hot. Anyone else?
