Hey all, just wondered how people with a Macbook rated them in comparison to the 2017 Macbook Air? I bought the Air just over a year ago to finish my uni course, but after having seen the £799 price on the Macbooks I'm considering switching. I commute by cycling and the weight/size would make a difference in portability. Anyone used both machines, or have a strong opinion on either?

Thanks for reading!

I like my 2016 MacBook way more than the 2013 MacBook Air it replaced.

I don't bike to class but I do appreciate the lightness and portability when it comes to the cramped desks and the silent operation when I'm in the library and hearing other students' regular laptops sound like a jet turbine.

The Retina screen alone would make the 12"MB a worthy upgrade to your 2017 Air IMHO. Plus the silence, compact housing, impressive speakers and beautiful design. As long as you can live with having just one USB-C port (w/o TB) and are willing to take your time getting used to the butterfly keyboard on the 12" MB, I would absolutely go for it!

Just keep in mind that Apple has registered a couple of new Laptop machines that have not been published yet. Chances are that a 12" Macbook refresh may be imminent.

However, as noone knows if and how they may be refreshed, noone can seriously predict whether the old (current) 12" Macbook may be the better choice still. And even though a refresh often brings reduced prices for the predecessor models, I'm not sure if the £799 would be undercut further.

I also think that though there may be a refresh in the Fall, they may have a new design next year! Can’t really future proof a lot.

MacBook by far especially if weight, size and screen are meaningful to you.

I'm finishing up my 4th month with my 2017 MacBook it's an M3 and I love it, its really like having an iPad that has a built in keyboard. I use it all the time for web browsing and hosting and attending facebook watch parties. I love the little machine
