MacBook Pro with external Cinema display

Hi,

When i'm at home, i connect my MBP to the Cinema display, so i don't need the internal display. So, i'd like to close the MBP lid and continue to work with the Cinema display. I use a wireless keyboard and mighty mouse, which are pretty cool :)
This method work fine if the MBP is connected to the power cord. However, if i unplug the power cord, the MBP goes to sleep immediately, even if the battery is still full.
Of course, i can wake it up by pressing a key on the keyboard or clicking the mouse, but after a couple of seconds it goes to sleep again.

Is there any way to keep working with the MBP using the cinema (external) display even when the power cord isn't connected?

Thanks.

FYI, in my recent extended tests, I found the MacBooks run HOT HOT HOT when closed.

Just last night I was watching a 1080p movie from my MacBook Pro to my TV and it was too hot to touch above the F2 and F3. I left the screen past 90º and it stayed cool the rest of the night.

In my tests, there are two ways to maximize air flow and keep your mac cool.

1. Leave the screen at an obtuse angle. With the screen opened anywhere past 90º, it directs the air straight down and out. Any less and it collides with the hinge and gets stale.

2. Put the rear edge on the edge of a table or lift it off of the desk. As long as there is space under the vent to allow better airflow, I notice my fans will drop about five hundred rpm JUST by lifting the machine.

I have a MBP 17 AG.

The only cons of having the 17 are:

1. High resolution --> small default text. Although you can adjust this sometimes, there are some things you cannot change and you will find yourself squinting if your eyesight isn't perfect. It's not terrible, but you will find yourself leaning in every once in a while.

2. If you travel on airplanes a lot, the 17 is terrible in coach/economy. You will find yourself contorting to find a comfortable typing/browsing position--especially when the person in front of you leans back. I don't know if the 15 is much better, but I think a 13 would work find on the little tray.

Besides that, I love it. I don't notice any extra weight/size inconvenience just carrying it around, only when I am on an airplane is it a burden.

then i guess i'll go get a 17'' then :) 13'' resolution (1280x800) is too slow for my daily job, while 1920x1200 is just perfect, and a ACD is just too expensive.

now, i'd would be awesome if mb pro were updated this week
