macrumors apparently
Well, after almost 4 years of flawless operation, this happened a few hours ago.

Lines are static. External monitor works properly via hdmi.

I have reset NVRAM/PRAM, and SMC to no avail.
I have ran the diagnostic tool only to spot my slowly failing battery issue.
Print-screening does not render the lines.
I've read it might be the internal monitor connector.
Swivelling the monitor does not temporarily fix the issue (no intermittent line producing that is)

Any other ideas?

I am also noticing ghosting

Downloading 10.14.3 (from .2) on the off-chance an update saves the day, but it seems highly unlikely at this point. It feels more of a hardware issue than a software one. Will report back once update is finished.

edit - updating to 10.14.3 has not fixed the issue and ghosting (image retention) is becoming more persistent over time.

an ifixit QA mentions that's a busted display assembly

Two third party service providers will be consulted tomorrow as $449/$549 is definitely out of the question for the part alone through ifixit and I am betting Authorised Apple Service (as no Apple in Greece) will be around that cost as well. Battery from Authorised Service Provider is EUR240 whereas from third party EUR120 without replacing the bottom case. Imagine the screen replacement cost ffs.
fun fact, my apple care expired Sep2018
