A hundred bucks is going to make people get the 11" over the 13" Air? You gotta be kidding. As I said, I liked the 2010 model so much, which I only purchased in March of this year, that I bought the 2011 model as soon as it came out. I lost more on the sale of my 2010 than the difference between the 11 and 13. So so much for buying for financial reasons.I feel like the 11 is only an easy choice if this is a rather easy purchase for you to make, financially.

I compared the 13" and 11" extensively and came to the conclusion that if I was going to go with 13" I might as well get the 13" MB Pro since they share similar footprints. But my desire was not a laptop "kind of small and light" I wanted SUPER small and light. And, in my opinion I made the right choice.
If the 13" was the right choice for you great... but to assume the 11" only sells to people who can't afford the 13" model is condescending and ignorant--in my humble opinion.

Should be quite easy to see what I was getting at, and why, as I quoted it for you.Neither, actually. I don't know what you're getting at in terms of your first point about price..
I think I've fallen in love with the 11" (to my surprise). Appreciate the insight on this.
I feel like the 11 is only an easy choice if this is a rather easy purchase for you to make, financially. My 13-inch MBA replaced a 4-year old MBP, so I wanted this to last. I can certainly see the advantages of the 11, but the 13 can actually be my main computer for the next few years due to the screen size and battery life.

I'm planning on picking up a brand new MBA, specifically for everyday university use. Given the work involved, the bulk of my work will be focused on word processing, web browsing, email, mind mapping, and listening to music throughout (primarily online, di.fm, Soma, Pandora, YouTube, etc).
I'm leaning toward the 13", 1.7GHz i5, 4GB, 128GB SSD over the 11" variants as I've read here that the 13":
-Has a slightly longer battery life
-Has a slightly higher resolution
-Many have mentioned how the 13" is easier to see than the 11", specifically in regard to word processing over long periods of use.
So, for a student who is carting it around in a Timbuk2 messenger bag, working primarily in a word processor, web browser and email client while listening to music...is the 13 the better choice? Am I overlooking something elementary that the 11 would be better suited for?
Any constructive thoughts are welcome.
Ahhhhh... You are right: I did misunderstand. Hope you can understand why I misunderstood.I reread your post and you are completely misunderstanding me--I'm not saying that people only get the 11 because they can't afford the 13, but that it's easier to get the 11 if it isn't your only computer. There's no argument to be had here.
EDIT: My point about money was precisely that I can't count on being able to afford another computer for the next few years, so I have to get something that's slightly more functional for the time being.

Hehe hey, 11" isn't a 'wrong' choice, not at all!You gotta get what you love! I fell in love with my 13" when I stopped by the Store to get one, and I still do
Enjoy!
If I went back to school, I would buy the 13" (and maybe with a i7 if I had spare cash) just due to battery life and higher res (easier for programming etc).
Get dat 13" you will enjoy the extra battery life.
I'm considering the 11" with the i7 actually...though nothing is final just yet...
I have no idea why people would get an i7 for basic, non-CPU intensive like word processing/browsing/etc. Unless your doing some hardcore rendering or something, the i7 is literally just throwing money at money at power you will never achieve when it comes to the average user.
