I am recording to Logic Pro, normally with ~5 tracks. I do a lot of acoustic stuff, but also I do some celtic stuff and in that case I use ~7-10 tracks. Hope this helps

I thought all laptops were portable, though luggable would be a better description of some offerings from days of yore.
Only you can answer the portability vs versatility question, depending on where your priorities lie.
