Before upgrading macOS to High Sierra, I usually got 8 to 9 hours of battery life; Now, my MBA only has 5 hours battery life at most and it would heat up, with causal and video browsing . Does anyone has the same issue?Any idea on solving this issue?

Same for me, but with generally poorer battery life compared to you due to my old device. So I confirm your observation.

Under the impression that High Sierra basically was supposed to be a under the hood upgrade equally to Snow Leopard back that days, I‘m somehow surprised.

I'm experiencing the same issue. I use Energizer Ultimate lithium batteries which normally last me 2 months without turning off. They now only last 8-10 days. The only difference in my system is the upgrade to High Sierra. It's hard to remember to turn them off when it's not a practice I'm accustomed to. This is an expensive OS bug. My keyboard batteries do not drain with the same rapidity.
