I have to use the trackpad speed at the max setting which I find strange because I could even go up further, but there is no option. I'm coming from an M1 Air which I use at 2 notches below the max. Has anyone had to do this too?

Yes I have the same issue. It's too slow even on the fastest setting, and the acceleration is too much as well.

It's way too slow, even at the maximum it's slower than the default on the pixelbook.

Must be a way to increase it? There's people changing settings using terminal, but apparently that doesn't work in latest

Try “BetterTouchTool" trackpad settings
BetterTouchTool

the pointer speed maximum goes further than the slider in system settings

Yea, it's annoying. Obviously an engineering/software decision by someone at Apple. My old 13 Macbook Air trackpad is about Twice as fast on maximum setting. Hopefully they will fix it in an update!

(just received a security update...no changes to the trackpad!).

I really don't want to pay for some third party Utility to fix something so rudimentary.

Unfortunately tools like LinearMouse don't work with the MBA 15 trackpad because Apple changed something in the driver that makes the pointer speed setting do nothing, and they also erased the trackpad hardware ID. It's still possible to adjust the acceleration but if you reduce it, the pointer moves even slower, and there's no way to make it any faster. There's a GitHub issue here.

Did you guys install this week's Mac OS update (Ventura 13.5)? Curious if the trackpad feels faster to you.

Weird. I'm using it right now, Ventura 13.5, Linear mouse is working. Maybe they fixed it?
I'm on 13.5 too, I just checked and it's not fixed for me. LinearMouse still shows the device as "Unknown" initially. It does detect the device half the time but it always did and it's not reliable. The acceleration control works, and that always did too, but the pointer speed control still does nothing.

The default fastest tracking speed setting feels like it might be faster now than pre-13.5, but I can't tell if it's just placebo...

It's kind of unbelievable this is an issue on such a new device.

Try this command:

defaults read -g com.apple.trackpad.scaling

This will tell you what your setting is. My 14" Pro is 2.5

Try changing to larger number to increase tracking speed with this command (5 is used as an example):

defaults write -g com.apple.trackpad.scaling 5

I use this to increase the tracking of the Magic Mouse. Just change trackpad to mouse in the commands to increase mouse tracking. On the mouse, I have this set to 11.

You need to reboot before the command takes effect, and if you make a change to tracking speed via the settings app you will have to redo this.

I don't know why weird things like thing happen with Apple. I remember when I first got my M1 Air, the keyboard was completely loose. I took it back and they replaced it, and it was fine after that. I guess QC is difficult on such a mass level.
