The battery in my mid 2012 MBA is in state "Replace Soon". I will buy a new Macbook or MBP in a couple of months after the next HW releases, but one thought is to use my current MBA as an CI server. As a CI server the MBA will be running 24/7 attached to a power chord. Most of the time it will be idling, but once in a while it will do hard work for about half an hour. I understand that this is not its intended use case, but will it work? And if so, do I have to replace the battery even if it will be fed from an external power source? (If that is the case it makes sense to replace the battery as soon as possible).
An alternative is of cause to buy a mini for CI server, but if I can use my old MBA that would of cause feel better. Maybe the battery is completely by-passed when the MBA is attached to an external power source (apart from charging, that is), and then I guess it will behave as good as a mini for this use case?
