MBA Battery advice

Hello, mac rumors. First time poster here looking for some advice. Within the week my 2013 13" MBA (i7,8,256) should arrive and I would like some help to avoid doing any potential damage to the first laptop I've owned.

My question is, is there a best method to dealing with the battery when I first use the machine. What I mean is, when I first get the MBA is it best to charge it up as soon as I get it, or would it be better run the initial charge all the way down then charge it?

Also, I have heard that it doesn't matter how you handle the battery from friends. If anyone could help clear this up that would be great.
