MBA constantly waking up from sleep

My new MBA was asleep with the lid closed for the past 24 hours. I just lifted the lid and noticed that it had been waking up every few minutes with the following info:

This repeats every few minutes...anyone else having this issue?

I decided to reinstall Big Sur...fresh after the install, I put the MBA to sleep. After ten minutes, I came back and still see the following wake up events. Can someone with a new MBA please run the following command in Terminal and see if you are getting the same results?

It's probably a normal part of macOS called Power Nap.

What is Power Nap on Mac?

Power Nap lets some Mac computers do tasks like checking for email and backing up even while they’re in sleep.

You can turn off Power Nap in System Preferences > Battery if you don't want it to do that.

I checked on my early 2020 MBA running the same version of Big Sur and I don’t see these events constantly waking it up. Wondering if other M1 MBA owners see the same behavior?

It sounds like you are looking for problems where none exist. Assuming it's related to Power Nap, everyone probably see the same thing. On my MacBook Pro the logs show this wake up event 25-30 times every day.

The issue is that I am seeing the battery drain more than expected while it is sleeping overnight. I am getting those events about every five minutes, even when I have "Wake for network access" disabled.

Sounds like your MBA is suffering from Sleep Apnea, which can cause a lot of problems if left untreated.

I agree with @chabig. Turn off the power nap option.

"Wake for network access" means that it will wake up when an external network event tries to communicate with it. That's not related to Power Nap. Turn off Power Nap and you should be happy.

Since you're concerned about this happening overnight, you could alleviate this by plugging it in.

Back in post #1 it said it was waking up because your outbox isn’t empty. Are all of your email accounts connected and is your outbox empty? This could have something to do with your email.

It’s an M1 MBA. Fresh re-install of 11.0.1. No internet accounts are configured for mail.

Still, I don’t think you need to be concerned unless you’re experiencing a problem. Battery use while sleeping is normal. How much are you seeing?

Losing about 8% each night. It's waking up about every 3 minutes with this event.

Could someone else with an M1 MBA please run this command in Terminal and see if they are also having the same wakeup events?

Power Nap isn't a thing on the M1. That functionality seems to be part of the "instant on" that they talked about.

I'm also seeing a lot of messages about OutboxNotEmpty on mine, but it doesn't seem to be having any negative impact on anything like battery.

Thank you all for your feedback. Looks like these log events may be normal on the M1. So far today I'm getting better battery life than previously so perhaps the macOS reinstall I performed has fixed it.

I have the same issue with my Mac mini. I wouldn't really care but every time it wakes it spins up the hard drives which is noisy and I'm concerned about wear. Sometimes it will wake up every 5 mins, all day every day. It's driving me mad.

I have feedbacked to Apple a few weeks ago.My mbp wake up every 15 mins.After i type command "sudo pmset -a powernap 0" in terminal, It's going to wake up every 1 hour...
So I think it's still a powernap issue but m1 can't disable powernap although controlled by pmset command(But it changes the wake-up interval).

No. I haven't seen any degradation in battery or performance. So, I haven't actively sought out any solutions. I still even get this at least once a second.

Failed to write key 1950829892 to SMC with error code 86. The amount of crap written to the logs is astonishing.
