Hello, I'm new to OSX world

I've a MacBook Air 13-inch 1.6 GHz Intel Core i5 + 8 GB 1600MHz DDR3 + 128 SSD
I think it shouldn't be that slow moving small or large files.

If i'm copying files to my USB drive or through the network the file transfer rate is insanely slow!!
No matter what i'm copying an applications or picture or videos it's always slow.

Same files would not take more than 5 minutes to finish copying the same files on average pc with HDD or SSD.

I've searched on the internet for a solution and i've just reset the SMC and PRAM hoping it will help
but the problem still exist.

I've another problem, when i try to type on any word on some websites, the rainbow spinning wheel will show and the keyboard will Freeze for around 5 to 10 seconds!
which is something i don't understand why would the Mac load for typing some text ?!

Hope you help me out to find a solution for this problems.

What kind of usb drive are you copying to? Is it it usb 3.0? How much of the 8gb of ram is being used when you start the copy process?

I have used a mid 2013 with 4 gb of ram and it's quick for copying over usb to a usb 3.0 lexar flash drive and external Seagate portable drive.

Hello, yes it's a USB 3.0
https://www.kingston.com/en/usb/personal_business/dtse9g2
and it's working very fast on my PC with no problems,

Ram was not overloaded in anyway, i've took the screenshot i've posted above when my MBA just booted and the Ram was basically empty and not loaded with any heavy appz

so i think it's not a Ram problem or the usb device.

How is the drive formatted? I find that, depending on the file sizes, speed can vary quite a bit. Copying several small files will be slower than copying a single large file.

I have also experience different copy times between a Windows and Mac machine and, through experimentation, stick with Lexar s75 drives for my Air.

I've been thinking about the same thing,
and I've already formatted the USB drive to Fat & FAT32 & Exfat and try to copy to files after formatting with each option in order to find which one is faster with the large or small size files
But unfortunately i didn't find any difference between any of these 3 formatting options, all of them were slow.

See what the Blackmagic test says about both the internal SSD and external disk: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/blackmagic-disk-speed-test/id425264550?mt=12

The part about the keyboard freezing implies there is a bigger problem of some sort. Is your internal SSD almost full maybe?

Hello, here is the report of Blackmagic test of the SSD
I don't think there is a problem with the SSD, and its not full, it's less than 50% is used.

I've also tried First Aid option in Disk Utility to see if it will help, but still the same issue.

and the USB disk is very fast on transferring files on the Windows PC

what could be the bigger problem ? i didn't get it ?

Looks like your SSD is fine. But how fast is the external drive? I would not use FAT, it can't handle files larger than 4gb. Actually I wouldn't use anything but MacOS Journaled format if you care about data integrity (unless the primary use of the disk is just to transfer stuff from your PC to your Mac).

The other issue about slow typing on websites is odd, but does this ONLY happen on the web (and not while working on a local document on your Mac)? If so, it might be related to your internet connection or it could be site-specific issues.

I would recommend trying to run OnyX Automation. Seems like something else may be going on in the background. Does it use any anti malware applications like MalwareBytes?

The the external drive as i mentioned earlier is Kingston USB 3 device and it's very fast from the USB to Windows PC or vise versa
but on the OSX it would take around 10x more of the time it takes on the Windows PC

I wasn't using FAT, i tried all the 3 formatting options to see which one is faster as i mentioned on my earlier reply,

and as you know MacOS Journaled can't be used in my case and i said i'm moving files from OSX to Windows PC with this USB drive.
So it's not an option for me..

The keyboard lagging issue with the rainbow spinning wheel happens on certain websites yes that requires me to type numbers or passwords,, and not happening on local documents

& I Don't think it would be related to my internet connection,
It's something local on my Mac since it's happening within the browser only.

sorry but what is OnyX Automation
i googled it, and i found this
"
Onyx Automation specializes in solid-state hard disk replacements for industrial and semiconductor applications.
By swapping out your rotating-spindle hard disk for high-reliability flash"
http://onyxautomation.com/

did you mean this guys ?
