Any input on how upgrading from the 4200 rpm drive to a SSD further down the road when they are more affordable may not be possible? I've heard that since its PATA that SSD may only start coming in SATA and therefor I'd be stuck.

The only thing that is keeping me from purchasing the macbook air is fear that I will be stuck with a pata drive when 128gb SSDs will be affordable.

Idealy I could get a ram swap and SSD drive done by an apple tech in a year or two when I might actually need it.

Here and there!
RAM is soldered, so you cannot upgrade that...ever. Sorry :(

As to the HD, I'm not sure anyone has checked yet. We'll need to wait until they start shipping. If I had to go with a gut instinct, I would say that the HD is replaceable.
