Tried both 2015 MBA i7 and MBPr i5 and on web browsing MBPr showed more battery life than air 11 vs 7.5 hrs
Initially had 12 hrs on MBA

Well the Air 11" has a smaller battery. You would need to compare to the 13" which could get almost 13 hours with light loads.

If you're looking at the estimates in the menu bar, those are almost worthless.

When i unplug my 2015 MBA 13" it says i have 14:56 on battery lol. So yeah those are basically estimates. But like i said the 13" has a bigger battery compared to the 11".

13 MBA vs 13 MBPr (i5 vs i7) battery life

Sorry for not being clear, I am comparing the battery life of MBA 13 inch i7 512GB +8GB RAM 2015 model with the MBPr 13 inch i5 512 GB and 8GB RAM 2015 model and it seems that the battery life is always quoted at being longer by several hours on the MBPr compared to the MBA
I wonder does the i7 in MBA use more power than i5 in MBPr while simply web browsing.

ignore what the "estimate" at the top says. You will get close to 13 hours with light use on the 13" air and around 10 on the mbp.

Thanks mattopotamus but I a considering MBA i7 2.2 gHz vs MBPr i5 2.9gHz each fully speed (512 GB+8GB RAM) for battery life
Which is longest and des i5 v i7 matter much ?

In terms of performance the two will perform very similar. IIRC, they have nearly the same geek bench scores. The battery life on the Air is no doubt better. Does the retina display matter to you? Something else to consider: the retina displays do suffer a little bit of UI lag b.c the graphic cards still struggle to push all of the pixels in the retina display.

Really it comes down to having a retina display with a little bit of UI lag, or an TN display with no UI lag. Some would rather have the retina display, and others would like a totally lag free experience. What do you value more?
