Hi

I recently replaced my mid-2018 MBP 15" with the MBA M1, mainly because I love portability (I use a 32" monitor with it at home), and this is "on paper" faster.

For most applications this appears to be true, however, when I'm exporting images in Lightroom CC, the whole computer almost comes to a complete standstill; something the 15" MBP never struggled with. It's my understanding that Lightroom is now updated to take advantage of the M1 chip, but I am just not seeing that.

Things I'm typically doing at the same time:

1. Music streaming
2. A few tabs of Safari open
3. Spark email client open

None of these are intensive tasks, yet everything (including the music) stops whilst I'm exporting a few images. I'm not even bulk-exporting hundreds of photos, it could just be a few that cause this issue.

Has anybody else encountered anything similar? I'm hoping the issue lays with Lightroom itself, rather than the actual MBA.

Thanks

Check your performance preferences and reduce the graphics acceleration - the auto setting seems to set it at full acceleration which seems to use up excess memory. Experiment with different settings to see what works better.

You didn't mention what config you are using; if 8gb, that may be somewhat low for your uses.

I have the 8gb version, although I would have thought that's enough to do some light editing and exporting. I've also changed the performance preferences - thanks for the tip; hopefully that'll help a bit.

It is quite memory intensive.
