Hello,

I have plugged in my Windows PC to a Dell U2720Q via DP. When I plugin my MBA M1 to the monitor via USB-C, the monitor shows me a pop-up screen if I want to switch the display to USB-C (YES/NO).

Not doing anything here, the pop-up screen goes away, the screen remains on the DP signal (Windows PC), but the MBA seems to be in a mode then, where I don't see the mouse cursor on the MBA built-in screen anymore, can't click anything etc., thus seems that the MBA expects to work with the external screen.

I was doing that as I simply wanted to use USB-C from the monitor to only charge the MBA, but using the MBA built-in screen. Is this possible?

Power off the monitor, it will continue charging the computer.
 
Ok. Thanks. What if I want to continue using the monitor with the Windows PC?

So:
- Monitor showing the screen of the Windows PC via DP
- Monitor acting as some sort of USB-C hub for the MBA M1 by charging and using the USB-C Upstream for the USB downstream ports on the monitor and using the MBA built-in screen

I'm not sure that's possible, most Dell monitors have pretty simple interfaces and weren't designed for splitting up the functions.

From my experience, if the USB-C monitor is powered on, the MacBook expects the display to be powered on and will send the signal to it. Switching the inputs on the LCD doesn't change the behavior.
 
I sometimes need the same thing as you. I set the external screen to mirror the internal one, and the resolution optimized for the internal monitor.
