Does anybody know of an App that will prevent my Mac going to sleep/clamshell mode when i close the lid ONLY when it is plugged into AC power?

To keep your MBP awake with the lid closed, use InsomniaX or InsomniaT (rebuild for SL) (fix for 2011 MPBs)

NoSleep keeps your Mac notebook awake when you close the lid.

So insomniaX and not NoSleep?

Can insomniaX be set only to work on power supply and ineffective on battery?

Either one will keep it awake when you close the lid. InsomniaX will also keep it awake, despite your energy saver settings.

I haven't tried that. You can read their documentation or download it and try it, to find out.
