Hi, so yesterday the battery of my old MBA (Original 1,1) which I rarely use bulge badly. I took it to the apple store today to see if maybe it was a lucky day and I got a free battery - no luck.

The genius reminded me about the Apple Reuse program, so I got some quotes on how much they would pay me for it: with a working battery ~190 and with a bad battery ~100.

A new OEM battery costs over 100 so it makes no sense to buy one. However, there are 3rd party ones on ebay going for about 37.

Does anyone know if I send the MBA with a 3rd party battery if I will be penalized in the offer?

Thanks.

Since you rarely use the battery maybe just leave as is and use it when plugged in. If you want to replace with 3rd party, I can't see it hurting since it isn't worth much anyway.
