Update since I changed the thread's title:

I guess the NMVE is not supposed to sit into the adapter I bought, I did fit it in but the computer won't start up, removed and it did start, mounted it again but again no startup; to add insult to injury two screws got locked, removed thanks to a friend and put back in the original (corrupted) SSD and computer won't start at all, removed and still no startup sound, did I brick the computer???

I finally got the Sintech adapter to fit into my 2012 11" MBAir but to my surprise the Kingston NMVE SSD won't fit, seems like a matter of a hair but the edges of the SSD won't slide into the adapter, might be my sight not that good any longer or wrong attempt at installing it but can't manage, would really appreciate somebody's help onto this to tell me if wrong combo of adapter vs SSD or whatever else.

See attached picture please

Grazie

Couldn't go any worse, I used a nails file to fit thin the SSD as to fit into the adapter, slide it into the MBA and try and switch it on, no success, it needs the bottom panel to short the pins on the motherboard to power on but, still, no success, remove the adapter+SSD and it starts, mount it again, screw just three screws to keep the bottom in place but again no startup, try and remove the screws but the cheap screwdriver ruined the screws head and two of them are locked in, end of the day can't remove the screws which means no startup and adapter+SSD locked in and dunno how to remove the screws :-(

Really thinking to get a refurbished M1 Air and give the 2015 13" away to my friend but still disappointed at the money and time spent on refitting the 11" (new battery, battery charger and Sintech adapter, the SSD I can reutilise somehow but the rest is money thrown away).

Sorry for the outburst

I have a 2012 13" with the Sintech M2(NGFF) SATA SSD Card.

Need to use an m.2 SATA drive - have mine with the Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1TB M.2 SATA Internal SSD (MZ-N6E1T0BW).

So this one didn't fit because not the correct kind of SSD?

would you be so kind to point me at a suitable one in the 500GB range not costing a lot of money because of the computer not worth the pain too much and also because of the Aura 480GB being in the 90 euros range so it won't be convenient going any further than that on an SSD to fit the Snitch adapter (given my friend who is an able handcrafts man can remove the two screws...).

Grazie

p.s. can't find SATA only, it always states NMVE along with SATA, would this work?

Correct, you need an m.2 SATA SSD with both M & B keys:

Good morning!

First and foremost thank you so much for your detailed reply, I didn't just have no clue which one would fit but I was totally sure that the one with matching pins number would be the right one...

I ordered the WD one and it is going to be delivered mid next week, hopefully this will get to a happy ending (...), in the meantime I managed to restart the little Air now it's all about the adapter and SSD matching and working.

I will keep you posted, again thank you so much

I got the WD Blue SSD which sits in the Sintech adapter and when booting with either Internet Recovery or from USB it shows into Disk Utility but fails to either partition or format, I get a (-69826) output error, don't know what to do now...

Any suggestion?

edit: removed the adapter, added a piece of masking tape (I guess that's how the blue tape is called) to the SSD and slide it back into the socket, maybe the tape, maybe the adapter/ssd wasn't inserted correctly but Catalina (off of an USB memory) is installing, keeping fingers crossed.

Grazie a tutti for your attention
