Either machine will suffice. How long will you plan on owning it?

I'd say the 8GB should be ok, but if you'll be wondering if you made a mistake and not comfortable with the decision, then opt for the 16GB for insurance and peace of mind.

Everyone here is talking about longevity and nobody here is talking about the battery. As in the battery is glued to the case and when it goes you're going to have to get a new machine anyway. I suspect the battery will go long before your machines usefulness expires.

And well.. you can change these batteries at Apple Stores - they can manage it. It's just inconvenient to do it yourself.
