I'm about to buy a MBP 13". I use MS Teams a lot and it hammers the processor on my 2015 dual core i5 MBP 13", and the fan comes on after a few minutes. Wondering if the slightly higher base speed of the 10th gen i7 might be better than the 10th gen i5? I also usually have a lot of apps open (excel/numbers, word, powerpoint, photos, etc etc, plus Adobe apps sometimes) As it is a work machine I'm just thinking performance not money. I've seen the benchmarks suggest not a lot of difference, but I'd be interested if anyone has any experience.

Teams is unfortunately very computer intensive regardless of the model and also on Windows. The faster computer will still run the fans and Teams won't perform any better.

I have a 2015 MBP 13 with the 3.1 Ghz i7 and Zoom spins up the fans. All of these videocon tools seem to use a lot of resources. I am able to videocon with my 2015 MBP 15 though. The quad-core seems to make a big difference in that the system has resources to do other things. The fans can come on with the MBP 15 as well but they aren't noisy.

I've actually taken to using an old Windows desktop for Zoom conferences as it's a cheap way to get rid of thermal issues. The ambient temperature at home can get higher than the office so fans can spin up more working at home.

I was in the same situation (2015 i5 13”) and went with the i7 which runs at about 25% in a Teams video call. Probably could have gone with the i5 but felt like spending the extra money for the i7 was worth it - to me anyway, YMMV.

How are the thermals?

Fine. When I’m doing anything requiring extended cpu it is on a desk connected to power so I never really notice.

i gave up using mbp for zoom/skype. thermal is really a issue whether i'm on 13 or 15inch. my ipp on the other hand handles video conference very well.
