Mbp 13 hot on top left corner

I have a mbp 13'' 2012, I'd like to know what component is there under the ESC key or in that area, infact it's the hottest point of my mac, I feel it everytime I put it on my lap.

even though it's not connected to power it will still be the hottest part?

Then it is the CPU.

Do you have the power plugged in (while the notebook is powered on) prior to putting it on your lap? If so, there are a few transistors in that area. They get hot in normal operation.

And for the record, the macbook pro is not really a 'laptop'. Better to have a lap desk...(ya, I know this is not what you were asking)

i know it's bad for you but rarely sits on my legs😉

It's no big deal. That is where the CPU is located and close to where hot air vents out of the back.

The CPU is under the 'E' key.
