I found this model at a good price, about $250 less than the 1TB version. Are the specs, speed, etc. the same as the 1TB SSD version, meaning is this the latest version? It doesn't appear you can build anything less than 1TB on store.apple.com so I wasnt sure if this was older or had a slower SSD, etc. somehow:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but base model MBP with M5 was available with 512GB but the option was later removed when Pro and Max chips came out and all lineups were bumped to 1TB minimum. Just giving some context as to why the option is missing from the configurator

You are correct.

Ah so this should be up to date with the rest of the line. Only with the smaller SSD?
Yes. That configuration used to be available directly from Apple, but no longer is offered. The chip and the ports and screen and everything except the storage are the same as the one terabyte model you can get directly from Apple now.

In the past, I think in the Mac mini‘s?, sometimes the smallest SSD‘s had slower maximum transfer rates than the one terabyte SSD‘s. I don’t know if that’s true for this particular model. Maybe someone else knows about this model. It had to do with how the NAND chips were laid out. But honestly, both schemes are really fast and you would never really notice, in my opinion. I wouldn’t worry about it.
