Ladies and Gents,

The MBP 15 2018 screen that I have has visible lines (tension wires?) every 15 pixels or so. So it looks like the display is made up from these horizontal bands.

I have a MBP 15 2016 and it's screen doesn't have this problem, and is, not to mention, substantially brighter.

Do I have a dud or are all the 2018 15 inch displays like this. I'll try to add a photo, but the photo doesn't show just how pronounced the effect is.

I don't see an issue. You can't see it unless you literally put your eye right up to the screen. They aren't meant to be used like that.

Thanks for your reply. The photo is pixelated and doesn't do justice. It's a really pronounced banding effect — especially on a teal color like the one in my slack theme. Is it possible i just have a low quality defective display?

I don't see this type of effect on my 2016 model at all ... would be awesome if there was someone else with a 16 and 18 side by side to let me know that it's normal for the 18 model. i can live with it, but just want to know if i should return b/c its a defect, or not.

Oh, is that not supposed to be two separate shades of teal?

This reminds me of the Sony Trinitron damper wires that some people couldn't see, some people could see but it didn't bother them, and some people thought it was horrendous and totally unacceptable.

I assume the same thing will happen here, and everyone will have a different subjective opinion on this. So it's best if you can make it to a convenient retail store where these are on display and compare for yourself with your own eyes.

It is two shades of teal. The lines are horizontal, not vertical. The photo is a terrible representation of what i mean. It's an iPhone photo and it blurs the lines. Really hope someone has both a 16 and an 18 and can just put it to rest for me by telling me that the screen is worse/different ...

Is there a what you can go to an Apple store and see if your system matches the ones they have on display?
