MBP 15 Fans blazing/not booting all the way

I have an older MBP (Version 2,1 - I believe, 2.2gHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM). Previously worked fine, now from the second the power button is pushed the fans turn on full speed, it chimes, screen comes on, gets to the Apple, spinning icon starts, then the spinning stops and it never boots the rest of the way. On occasion it will work, but not in the past few days.

Anyone else have this happen, and is there a fix?
