you get roughly 5cm more screen, width wise you are only looking at 1,5cm on each side. I bought the 17'' because it was the best fit for me since ill be using apps that take my entire screen and need some working area.
 
No one should buy the 17. It's so unportable. You'll never be able to take it anywhere. That 3cm and half a kilo difference is so HUGE. You will be like, OMG I'm such a wimp.

while this is obviously an untrue statement in an absolute sense I must agree with you in a practical standpoint. When it comes down to practice the 17" is really hardly less portable than the 15.
