Hey Guys,

Obviously speculation but do you think the addition of the new GPU option to the late 2019 16” means we now have zero chance of a mid 2020 update?

I don’t think Apple will update the MacBook Pro 16” at WWDC, if they were going to do that I don't think they would of announced yesterday’s option.

Maybe they will update it later in the year, October might happen.

Given the new GPU will likely add a lot of heat I'd suspect they won't bother with new Intel chips that also add more heat. Just guessing of course.

Can't see a refresh coming until the end of the year, most likely early next year, upgraded internals, mini led.

I think that there will be a new mbp 16 this year and MAYBE at WWDC because it was not a new 16 inch nor refresh, but just a new option for the highest configs.

The next 16" MBP, my bet, won't be coming till end of this year for the 10th gen Intel one likely with wifi 6 and maybe Mini LED screen. That'll likely be the last 16" MBP till it's ARM version is ready in 2021 or 2022. Even before the new GPU option, i didn't think it was likely we'd get a new 16" MBP 6 months after we just got one (not that that hasn't happened before, it just didn't seem likely in this particular scenario).

the 45W 10th gen intel cpus are still 14nm++. given they added this new gpu option, i doubt apple will use them, and will probably wait till 10nm 45W chips

Why would they roll out a new GPU on the 16" this week, only to replace the 16" model next week?

Apple did once piss off a lot of customers by doing the opposite (a mid year refresh and then shorty after adding new dGPU options, something people said Apple would never do), so nowadays I guess you never know!

I really don't think they would release an update to the MBP one week after updating the MBP with a newer GPU. That really makes zero sense imo

Don't think new 16" is going to be released. Apple tends to flex the marketing muscle by providing facts of the usual double-digit gains in the new internal upgrades (Up to 50% faster etc).

Moving from 9th gen to 10th gen Intel chips? What is Apple going to write on their website?

I bet we will see another one this fall. Apple has done it before, with the Vega 20 option being added in 2019 then the faster 5500m 16” some months later.

I think it could go either way. But i hope they do it for the fall/winter. The Late 2020 16" MBP with 10th gen Intel chip Mini LED and wifi 6 would be a good final Intel MBP before they shift focus to ARM.
I really wish they release a mbp with that specs with the same price.

IMO Apple is pretty much stuck waiting until intel releases a 45w version of the new Tiger Lake chip. No one knows, but good chance that won't be until at least end of year or 2021.

The alternative, of course, if they go ARM for everything in which case they may have an A14/15 12-core chip ready sooner. (rumors are of an 8 big/4 small type chip coming)

Has anyone actually designed an ARM based computer with a Nvidia/AMD dGPU? I know it's going OT, but I cannot recall one as they all seem to be SOC chips. I don't think built in internal GPU is going to be trading blows with AMD 7nm dGPU anytime soon.

Maybe offer a new ARM processor option while keeping everything else relatively similar?

Based on Geekbench benchmarks, a couple of Apple AXX processors could fit the same thermals as the current Intel one and deliver more computing capacity.

I guess the fact Apple has refreshed pretty much it's entire laptop line over the past few months means no new MacOS devices this year unfortunately unless we see a 16" towards 'Q4 with mini-LED.

Rumours of a new iMac at WWDC but I don't see them announcing anything else. Possibly an ARM Mac mini or similar aimed purely at developers for testing and porting apps to the new platform?

I don't see it happening this year. They are already pretty busy with a bunch of new iPhone models and the 16 isn't that old. I would much prefer the Intel 10th gen myself but it's been a very challenging year for tech companies. My guess is that they are putting a lot of management focus on getting people back into the office.
