This is an old thread but I just picked up a 2009 17" Macbook Pro 5.2. 2.8Ghz

My battery holds more then 13,000mAH The Machine Draws 12 watts from my AC as measured by my Kill-A-Watt meter. That includes the Power supply losses.

The gauge says it will run for 10 hours on the lowest display brightness and 8.5 hours on medium. I have a Samsung 256 GB SSD drive in it.

The only complaint is the freaking razor sharp top edge that cuts your wrists. I put 5 layers of tape to keep it from trashing my wrists. I'm willing to bet a recall will be made to correct the razor blade edge. If not I might be willing to start a class action lawsuit to get Apple to fix the problem. Other then that it's an awesome setup.

Im having a similar issue with my 13 inch macbook. Any opinions, tried calibrating multiple times, might be time for a visit to the apple store.

Im only getting about 4 hrs from my battery with just safari open. By the way I have no idea how Ive put 69 cycles though this thing in 2 months. This is a replacement machine, my first had a hard drive failure with in a month of purchase, maybe the machine already had power cycles on it somehow. I didn't check it when I received it so there is no way of knowing.

How the heck is it even possible that he has 17000 mah????? Seems fake to me, unless they put a different battery in.

There were some "issues" (not really) when the Unibody 17" came out earlier this year. Some select users were getting batteries with a capacity of 17,000-18,000...I remember it clearly.

Unfortunately I was not one of them. :[

4 hours is normal as your battery only has a little over half the capacity compared to mine. My 15" Macbook only ran for about 3 hours as it's energy load at idle was about 24 watts. My new 17" draws 12 watts at idle and has a much bigger battery.

As for your "cycle count" it's stored in the battery not the computer. If the battery is switched the count will go to 0 again.

Well, when i first got my macbook pro it was getting about 6 hr, now four. Went to the apple store tonight, head genius said that battery health at 85% after two months was abnormal and swapped out the battery.

Agreed about the cycle count though, right back down to zero.

Besides a battery loosing capacity part of the reduced battery life is when you add apps. You add a bunch of processes that increase CPU usage causing a decrease in battery life compared to a fresh OS install.

Agreed, but nothing was taking up much cpu, had checked the activity monitor multiple times, and even disallowed flash to run. Genius checked activity monitor and console logs.....battery was definitely fubar. Battery at full charge now, estimated 6:56 hr left on full charge with half brightness and wifi on, was only getting 4 hr before with the same background app setup.
