Guess what showed up in my office today?
Yep, a 17" MacBook Pro.

Nostalgia set in and just had to share it a couple of Mac friendly people. I'm surrounded by Win10 people that just cannot appreciate this rare gem.

Now off to wipe it and send it to the recycler. Makes me a bit sad.

I sent mine to recycler years ago. Heavy old system with big poor resolution screen.

Only old Mac I keep is my 1984 fat (512K) Mac, complete with programmer switch. The rest the macs get scraped, sold, or given away.

Very cool!

Shame Apple doesn't listen to the few people who still like 17" laptops. (I'm typing on one right now. With Windows. Ack...)

Apple has so much money, I would think they could afford to make some cool "avant garde" models like a 17" version just to delight some of their die-hard fans once in a while.

Anyway, thanks for posting :)

Given that Apple stock price has lost 25% in the last few weeks (down 200+ Billion), and their valuation is below Microsoft and Amazon, I don't expect any spending on one off models any time in the near future. Maybe after Tim Cook's replacement is named and something other than phones is driving the Apple revenue stream.

That would take someone at the top being remotely interested in the Mac, Tim Cook has already basically stated Apple's future for computing lies with IOS devices; likely cheaper to develop & manufacture with better margin. Just a question of which one outlasts the other Cook or the Mac...

Already prepared! Currently have several Asus Zenbook Pros running Ubuntu for future proofing.

Well, I do like the idea of plugging a future iPhone into two 27" monitors and doing all my work that way. If it ever comes to that. Created a new thread. Something like this:

No doubt that's the future for lighter workflow's, equally IOS needs to develop more towards productivity.

We had that several years ago with Ubuntu Touch, not enough backers interested at the time.

A very simple demo using the phone as a monitor:

Really, we plugged a monitor and keyboard into the phone and the phone display went dark.
Here is a poorly lit example of what I mean:

Ubuntu is nice, I installed recently on Lenovo Yoga 3, all hardware detected without any problems, good battery time, touchscreen working flawlessly
