MBP 2.33 GHz optical drive refusing to recognize blanks

I am stumped by this one... I just tried to burn a disc today, but Finder complains that it can't use the disc because it cannot be recognized. Non-blank discs work just fine. The brand of disc doesn't seem to make a difference, nor does inserting blank DVDs instead of blank CDs help.😕

EDIT: Well, that was strange. A restart cured it.
