I might be purchasing a the new MBP in the next month or so but I had a quick question.

I know the 2011 MBPs max out at 16GB of RAM, even tho Apple only show/say 8GB.

As Apple say these new MBPs can have 16GB can they actually have more? Can the upgraded specs handle more than 16GB of RAM.

Just curious, I would never need more than 8GB.

At the moment, I don't believe there are any 16GB RAM chips, and since there's only 2 slots, you're still limited to 16GB total. If 16GB RAM chips ever exist, then we'll find out if they work, but for now there's really no way to know for certain.

The Intel specs for the CPU (which includes the memory controller) state 32GB for the higher end Ivy Bridge parts. The 2011 Sandy Bridge MBPs are 16GB.

We'll only really find out when 16GB SO-DIMMS become available.
