My 2015 pro running High Sierra has recently started running hot more often, causing the fan to run. Worse, the battery has gone from lasting 5-7 hours to about 2, doing the same activity (browsing the web). Any ideas about why the sudden fast drain? I don't know if it running hot is related or not; sometimes it heats up enough for the fan to run while the lapbook is plugged in. I have it sitting where air can circulate under the machine (not flat on a desk).

Just an idea but you could try Activity Monitor / Energy and see what is using energy from the battery...using CPU power draws more energy which creates the heat and battery drain.

I've looked at the activity monitor but honestly I don't know what I'm looking at. The highest number belongs to Firefox..but it's literally the only thing I'm doing. When I'm websurfing, there's nothing I can turn off to reduce energy use. The same pattern of use never use to drain the battery so quickly. It goes down to 20% or less in less than 2 hours these days.

Here's a screenshot of the activity monitor after 45 minutes of battery use. I've been websurfing and the battery life is down to 78%.

So whatever you are looking at with Firefox is using a lot of CPU and hence battery. Try the same sites using Safari (which is better optimised for low power).
