In September, I took my 1TB MBP 2016 because the left command key was not responding. This was after taking it in March 2017 to repair four lose-fitting USB ports, which were worn after just four months of use.
Then last week, I took in my 2TB MBP 2017 to repair a completely unresponsive keyboard that would not even respond to a SMC or PRAM reset because the keyboard was totally dead. After spending two hours with AppleLink support, a Genius confirmed that this was a depot repair job. Took it in Monday and it was delivered on Saturday.
Combined loss of MacBook, about 11 days. BTW, I'm a public speaker and the keyboard went dead at Nashville BNA airport. If it had died just a few hours earlier, I would have been completely hosed because I had to give a presentation to 150+ people. 😱
I highly recommend getting AppleCare for these delicate units because I'm pretty positive that the USB-C ports will wear out again, causing the power plug to fall out, or the keyboard will act up.
YMMV because I'm heavy user, 8-10 hours each day, which is why I have a backup MBP. #SAD 🙄
