OP --
Just wondering, do you ever put the MBP into a backpack?
If you do, is there much pressure on the case, from other stuff IN the backpack?
and this...
I thought the same thing, but it appears that the contents of the backpack exert a greater force on the MBP than one would expect. Making it worse is a backpack with a greater carrying capacity, or heavier items carried along with the MacBook. My 2018 had some marks appear, which managed to wipe off. My 2014 never had this in 3 years, but the 2018 got it within a month or two. This may also be a result of a change to a larger Thule backpack to replace a slimmer InCase. I use a piece of microfibre (the thin, lens cleaning type) cloth that is a little larger than the keyboard to prevent the contact. I’ve had no issues since starting to use it.That is exactly the theory of the Genius at Apple... I don't buy it. Apple sells computers to students that can't survive in a backpack with student books?
I would not use paper, it’s hard and pretty abrasive.I keep the paper sheet that it came with on my keyboard when I close it. I haven't noticed any marks and mine is about 3 years old.
My old Thinkpad did it all the time. I ended up buying a spongy screen protector designed for the purpose. The gap between keyboard and screen was a fair bit more than that on the current-design MBP, allowing the thicker protector to fit.I have owned many Lenovo Thinkpads and have NEVER had the keyboard mark up the screen.
