I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this? I'm connecting a couple of external drives to my MBP via a USB-C dock. They work perfectly fine, but if my MBP goes to sleep for more than a minute or so, the dock seems to completely disconnect, causing a dirty unmount of the external drives... I've had to erase and reformat my Time Machine drive twice because of this now.

I normally run caffeinate, so as to keep Plex running, and that prevents it from sleeping, therefore preventing this issue, but when I forget to run it after coming home, it still happens...

Does anyone here know if there's a reason this is happening, and a way to prevent it from happening?

I have had this issue as well, have not found a solution for it unfortunately. Which dock are you using? I am using the Caldigit USB-C Pro Dock, and I was already wondering if this dock is malfunctioning...

I'm using a 'cheap' Amazon dock.

I have a feeling the new MBPs go into some sort of 'deep sleep', which causes the ports to be disabled (maybe the T2 chip is turned off/put into some sort of low energy mode?).

I do have some evidence for this - when this sleep happens, I can't wake it up by touching the Touch ID sensor, I have to physically press a key to wake it up again, which does lead some credence to this idea.

i have this issue all the time with my external hard drive WD capacity 3TB.
Just make sure laptop doesn't sleep with external hard drive plugged in. i know its very frustrating and i pray apple fix this issue with some minor update on mac OS
