I normally run Wow on a 19" square panel external monitor using the mac listed in my sig.

I've fairly recently started raiding and am running a lot more UI than I'm used too and it's a lot of clutter.

So my question. Can my mac push a 24" monitor with a reasonable framerate?

You should be able to run up to 1080p type resolutions just fine...

the size of the monitor doesn't matter, its the resolution. You could have a 60 inch plasma at 720p that would require less processing than a 24" 1920x1200.

Judging by your MBP specs, you probably have an x1600, not the 8600GT.

Depends on what resolution the 24 inch monitor is. If its 1920x1080, then the framerates might suffer in WoW.

Try it out and see what happens.

If you just need it for deskptop space and plan on running a lower resolution for wow itself it should be fine. Your fans might get really loud though.

It is the x1600. And I'm not sure I'd run it full Res anyway depending on how things look. And the fans are always going full tilt when I play so nothing new there. if it ever gets under 75C while playing I'd be amazed. And that's with a cooler plate underneath (with fans)

i'd recommend keeping the resolution full but just turning down the graphics a bit. On a lot of monitors, non-native resolutions look horrible. Also, if you run it in bootcamp you'll get better fps.

I ran Counter-Strike Source on my MBP on my 32" HD LCD tv and it was sooo clear I never thought it was possible, sure I had to use the Windows partition and Windows isn't as clear and picture perfect as Mac OSX, in fact Mac OSX actualy figures the screen size out all on its own and on Windows you have to dink with it.

Games on Large TV's with Wireless keyboard and Mouse ROCK!

I play WoW on an 20" external at 1680x1050 with most graphics turned down and get 29.9fps in most areas and about 24fps in populated parts of cities. That's with the X1600 running it in Full Screen Windowed mode so I can use my mbp's lcd for other things while I play.
