MBP + 30" Dual link display

Is the only way to run a dual link display from the mbp with apples own $100 cable or are there any alternative cheaper cable available?

I have not seen one at any better of a price. The bloody thing looks like a kludge.

There are probably other adapters, but since it can't use a passive adapter, it's going to be expensive. I'd google mini displayport to dual-link dvi, and see if there are adapters with better reviews, as apple's adapter has been known to be hit or miss

I use Apple mini displayport to dual link DVI adaptor. Make sure you get one with firmware 1.03. I owned V1.01 and V1.02, both has some problem. V1.03 is much better now.
