I've just returned from Apple Store with my trusty 16in M1 MBP to have coconutBattery tell me that the replacement battery I've paid for is 3,760 days old: manufactured in 2016.

Is this acceptable, especially as its only guaranteed for one year?

Status is Good; 0 cycle count.

The battery isn’t actually 10 years old. You can be sure the battery is fine since it came from Apple.

coconutBattery is extrapolating the manufacture date from the serial number. The serial number usually does not contain the complete date, but just a "hint".
Apple - for example - used to put the week into their serial numbers and the last number of the year. (So 6 could mean 2006, 2016 or 2026.)
So coconutBattery has to guess - which sometimes fails.

I recommend dropping the coconutBattery support a line; they are very helpful.
A had a similiar situation. In June 2021, it told me, that the manufacture date of my MacMini 2011 was 20 days into the future. 🙂 They fixed it in a new beta.

Just how long as you expecting fresh off the shelf replacement batteries to exist?

edit:
oh... mis-read as this being for a 2016 macbook. yeah serial number decode error... doesn't system report have the manufacture date in there anyway?

Dont be afraid !
I exchanged the battery of my beloved 15“ MBP 2015 two years ago. Bought a third-party battery in Germany from a well-known shop. They sent as well a perfect instruction how to exchange and so the exchangement went superbly.
Capacity after installation and 24 h charge: 112,7 % (coconut battery). 🙂))

BUT… I did not follow their instruction how to reset the data of the battery because the process seemed not to be done in some minutes and the former exchanging the batteries of the older MBPs (2012) the correct date of production before was always shown automatically.
So - my new battery has still the old data of production - but all the other, by coconut measurable data are absolutely correctly visible.

The german shop is very professional and they advertise that they cooperate with a chinese manufacturer whose products are even better than the original apple batteries, but far less expensive although a little bit more expensive than other third-party batteries.

Evidently, they tell the truth:
Even after 2 years and about 80 charges indicated the battery has still 111% capacity !

As for the 15“ MBP 2015 I can only say that the exchange of the battery is very simple if you follow the instructions and use good instruments. I was not in a hurry, but it took not more than about 20 min - most of the time was waiting enough for the alcohol dissolving the glue.

Be sure to discharge the old battery before exchange to exclude problems AND isolate the cables after.
And to exclude fire, and depose it correctly and environment-friendly.

===>>> If you have a look in „self-diagnose“ you see nevertheless the correct by coconut and the mbp itself measureable data : Load cycles and capacity and charge-level.
But NOT the manufacturing date (which is useless as long as the battery performs correctly)

On reflection, as the MBP was only released in 2021, it would be amazing if there were an extant battery in that year which has been made 5 years before 😉
