MBP c2d 2.4 4gb 94/9600 issue outputting to tv 42" plasma

hey folks - big thanks in advance for any help / advice

i have a 2.4 c2d 4gb 94/9600 gt macbook pro with a hdmi -> mini adaptor plugged into a 42" hitachi plasma - everything comes on screen fine - not a hitch even plugged in via optical to my sony DRE amp the sound is fine

but about every ten min of watching something either via QT or VLC player the video will lock up and the sound - but all the rest of the osx is responding fine, this off an external hard drive and i've also had issues with files on my standard internal drive :S

any ideas - also i have the tv set to 720p in display settings (cloned mode) as it seems to be the best option....but even changing to 1080 makes no difference...

10 min? Do you have some screensaver that goes in then? What type of file?

hi thanks for getting in touch - no there's no screensaver due its set to 120mins, eerm it was a quicktime file taken with my iphone, and also a divx file.
