Ironically, I have to ask for suggestions here about how to connect 13 inch macbook pro (mid 2010 model) to a 20 inch Apple Cinema Display.

I purchased a mini-dvi to dvi adapter, connected these two, no response. MBP can not detect the ACD, tried a few methods, reboot, plug off and plug in, switch on and off ACD, reset PRAM, reset SMC, no luck.

MBP is running 10.6.8, could anyone else give me some suggestions? Many Thanks!

Have you tested the mDP to DVI adaptor with any other monitors to ensure that it works?

If this is the old plastic kind I'd be really interested in a fix I have a 23" I'd love to use.

I even tried the MDP to dual link DVI still a no-go

Don't they have ADC connectors rather than DVI? Surely you'd need a (rather pricey) ADC->DVI connected to mDP->DVI....

I would rather post a pic -- cuz I didnt buy it from Apple. See the attached picture.

I'm going to have to suggest it's the adapter. I've purchased multiple 3rd party adapters and out of 5, two didn't work.
I either have incredibly bad luck or the workmanship of most generic adapters is not that great.

I dont wanna challenge the quality of this adapter -- cuz my brother bought two, one for his imac and the same 20 inch ACD, works fine. So, the odds of this adapter fail is quite low. But, still, appreciate your suggestion.

Why don't you ask to borrow your brother's adapter and try that on your computer just to rule it out?

And that somehow proves the adapter is working? Strange logic.

Anyhow, I had issues with my mDP to VGA adapter (Apple original) and it turned out I needed to switch from the Intel to Discrete GPU, but you haven't got two GPUs so I guess it is the adapter that is at fault here...

Also have you plugged it in and tried to use the "detect displays" feature? Just throwing that out there.

Tried, not working.

He bought these two identical adapters from the same manufacturer. Anyhow, I will give it shot to use the other adapter, will keep you guys posted.

Just because you buy two of the same thing, does not mean both are of the same standard/quality or in fact, working.

For a quick update anyone else suffering the same connections issue, I just bought a new mdp to dvi adapter, works perfectly.
