Hi, I am planning to buy an retina mbp which will be able to play 4k 10 bit HDR movies (.mkv format) via usb-c to hdmi 2.0 to my 4k TV? Any suggestion? Should I buy the 2017 kaby lakes one or I have to wait.

The display I/O is the bottleneck, not the CPU hardware acceleration nor the GPU capabilities.
I believe it takes HDMI 2.0a for 4k HDR 10bit 60Hz(or even 30Hz)
either way the HDMI version out of the MBP via USB-C, regardless of what adaptor, is capped at ver 2.0

Got it. Very useful information. Thank you!

Do you think they will update to 2.0a or greater this year? Any reason to believe they won't?
