So as i've pointed out in another post, i'm about to return my 2nd MBP because of the yellow tint in the bottom 1/3 of the screen.

The replacement i got is also suffering from random intermittent display issues when i'm performing basic routine tasks like resizing a window or scrolling through a web page. THe screen gets garbled and scrambled and looks like a glitch experiment. Images and text overlap and get squished and cut up, white blocks flash inside images as they are loading and sometimes the entire screen just gets garbled in static and lines made up from the content on the screen.

The problem isn't isolated to safari - it can happen in any program including iphoto and itunes. It seems to occur randomly and once it starts it continues until i restart the computer. But inevitably it comes back again, and each time it seems to be getting worse. It's happened 4 times in less than 24 hours. I tried updating the os to 10.5.3 but that didn't help.

Any ideas on what might be the cause?
Does this sound like a hardware issue?

I'd like to be armed with some information when i return to apple (again) ...
so any insights greatly appreciated.

I showed the video problem to an authorized apple repair center and they said that they were 100% certain the problem was faulty hardware - most likely a faulty graphics card.

I returned the unit to apple, and now have my 3rd MBP in 5 days.
Hopefully 3's a charm.
