MBP crashed when I installed the Firmware update. Why?

MBP crashed when I installed the Firmware update.. says no boot disk. All apps have to be reinstalled. What would cause this?

Probably the crash during the firmware update. Maybe you can get around by just reinstalling OS X.

Try booting from install disk and see if your hard drive can be seen in Disk Utility. Verify it and repair permissions too

More problems!

It boots but I have to Option-Boot everytime and select the harddrive for it to boot. it won't select it automatically at all. I have to show it where the HD is!

Advice please?
