Hey everyone,
Have been having a persistent issue on this 2-month-old 16" MBP that has been happening since I got it. When editing in Final Cut Pro (usually when exporting but even just editing) my system will completely lock up for about 10 seconds, the screen will go black, the fans will spin up to 100% (they're always running but they sound like they're going beyond max speed) and then the whole system shuts down and reboots with a Kernal Panic error.

No aftermarket RAM installed or accessories, but this happening to me at least once or twice a week. Was able to copy the log from the crash that just happened.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Try updating your system software. You are on 10.15.5. Current version is 10.15.7

Do you have any external devices attached (external storage, or other USB device?)

You said you don't have any third party RAM installed. I would hope not, the RAM is soldered in permanently (no slots exist for RAM upgrades. )

Did AppleCare give you any ideas when you called about this issue with your new MBPro?

My best tip would be to try the built-in diagnostics. That might result in a service code of some kind.

You said you don't have any third party RAM installed. I would hope not, the RAM is soldered in permanently (no slots exist for RAM upgrades. )

Haha I was reading some old threads and commenters were saying 3rd party RAM would be an issue. Totally forgot that's no longer an issue.

I do have some devices connected: a CalDigit Dock, 2 Monitors, a JellyFish over 10GBE - but these issues were happening before I got any of this stuff hooked up.

So, update your system to current.
Run diagnostics (once, then restart, and run the test a second time.
Come back with any response codes.

Finally, you have a warranty (and if it's not software, then it's hardware, which Apple should be able to offer suggestions for getting a repair.
